While public fast-chargers get most of the attention, the majority of EV charging in Germany happens at home, at work, and at "destination" points. This "normal charging" (AC charging) is the backbone of daily EV use. Most German EV owners install a Wallbox at their home, which provides a faster and safer charge than a standard household socket.

Furthermore, the German government supports this through KfW development bank grants for private Wallbox installations. Employers are also increasingly installing charging stations in company parking lots, and destinations like hotels, shopping malls, and restaurants are adding AC chargers to attract customers. This ubiquitous, lower-power charging ensures vehicles are consistently topped up where they park for extended periods.
